LOCAL COUNCILLOR BACKS FITC

This week Northampton Town's Football in the Community programme welcomed Councillor Suresh Patel to the Rotherham fixture at Sixfields stadium to receive funding to deliver a coaching programme to 3 classes of pupils in Lyncrest primary school and Briar Hill primary school. Our team of Community coaches will work with pupils to deliver fun, engaging, challenging sessions focusing on fundemental movements such as agility, balance and coordination, whilst setting a series of challenges to encourage teamwork and problem solving. The sessions are structured in a way that children will be required to work with fellow pupils to find solutions to problems and challenges set by our coaches, relating to aspects of the game such as dribbling and turning, sending and receiving, shooting and small sided games.

The sessions will be funded as part of the Empowering Councillors and Communities Scheme and aim to show benefits in the local community to include an increase in sports participation, an increase in health benefits, a rise in participation of mixed urban and rural populations, and an increased participation of diversity of ethnic populations.

Councillor Patel, from Briar Hill and St James said "By Using the Empowering Councilors money, I have been able to provide a wonderful opportunity for local school children to benefit from the exciting programme that Northampton Town football Club's Community Scheme can offer young people in the community. Not only will they be taught about the finer points of football, but they will also benefit from learning more about the importance of the healthier diet and also how to exercise properly. I am sure the children will greatly enjoy this scheme, and I hope the lessons they learn will benefit them for many years to come."

Northampton Town Football in the Community would like to thank Councillor Suresh Patel for his support and for making this project possible. We look forward to welcoming him to one of the sessions to see the good work in action.
