Peterborough Sports Parkway Ladies 4 Northampton Town Ladies 1
The Cobblers management knew this semi final was not going to be easy with Peterborough's' recent results very impressive.
The game started well with Northampton Town putting Peterborough under a lot of pressure but no clear cut chances were forthcoming.
Peterborough grew in confidence as the game went on and with 30 minutes played a long ball over the top found a Peterborough striker who hit the ball superbly across goal, beating Emily Cure to open the scoring.
The Posh led 1-0 at half time, but the Cobblers started the second half as they did the first with a lot of pressure in Peterborough's half without testing their goalkeeper.
With the Cobblers chasing the game, they were susceptible to counter attacks and one such move allowed Peterborough to score their second goal.
A couple of minutes later, and after some poor marking in the Cobblers penalty area from a corner resulted in Peterborough getting a quick third.
The girls heads were down at this point and the game was effectively over with 25 minutes left to play.
With three minutes to go a Cobblers corner resulted in Zara McAiney rising highest to nod in a consolation goal.
Peterborough put the final nail in the Cobblers coffin with another counter attack goal in the closing moments.
Coach Steve Healy said; "Our team got what they deserved and Peterborough Sports Parkway wanted the game more than we did. If our players aren't prepared to put the preparation in as a team in the week at training, then they can't expect to get the results and performances they so badly want. A few players had the wrong attitude going in to this game and some of them didn't even deserve to put the claret shirt on today. If they want to play for this club, they have to show a lot more pride, passion and commitment."
The Ladies next game is on Sunday 26th February at home (Roade FC) to Loughborough Students 2pm KO. We would really like as much support to this game as possible to cheer our ladies on, it is FREE to watch our home games.
Also our U11, U13, and U15's Elite Female Development Programme girls are away to Reading on Saturday 25th February.
