Northampton Town's Football in the Community Programme welcomed close to 70 budding young Cobblers to Sixfields this week to take part in our final coaching course of 2011. Children aged as young as 3 braved the cold and wet conditions to learn tips and skills from our community coaches, along with some expert advice from first team stars Adebayo Akinfenwa and Jake Robinson, who also took the time to teach the finer points of their latest celebration!
The youngsters spent the mornings perfecting skills such as dribbling, passing and finishing, through carefully thought out drills and lots of fun games. As well as our outfield players, our goalkeeper specific group worked with our specialist goalkeeper coach to perfect handling, shot stopping, distribution and diving technique. Following a well earned lunch break, the afternoons consisted of small sided games and tournaments where some very competitive matches were played out at a high standard in all age groups.
The final day saw our young players receive a Northampton Town medal, certificate and goodie bag for their efforts at our closing presentation which was well attended by parents, friends and family. Some lucky players who showed excellent attitudes and efforts over the three days also won Northampton Town footballs and 2 tickets to see the first team take on Burton Albion in the Boxing Day clash.
A huge thank you and well done to all those who joined us these past three days, we hope you enjoyed yourselves and look forward to seeing you all again during February half term.
Merry Christmas!
