Delapre primary school ran out winners of the Northampton Town Kids Cup 2011/12 in partnership with Football League sponsor npower.
The finals were held at Sixfields training pitch on Saturday 21st January, where Delapre, Towcester, St James and Wollaston primary schools fought off competition from almost 70 other schools in the county to reach the finals. A good number of parents, friends and family members turned up to show their support to the boys who were gunning for the chance to represent Northampton Town and a place in the regional finals!
The day saw some excellent games played out, with a very high standard of play on show from all schools during the group stage. After scores were totted up, it was to be St James and Delapre who would fight it out in what turned out to be a very close final! 20 minutes of competitve football passed, seeing goal mouth clearances, excellent saves, fast flowing one touch football and even a penalty miss, however the two schools could not be separated - even 5 minutes of "golden goal" wasn't enough to find a winner! And so the final was to be decided on penalties, in front of what was proving to be a very nervous croud of spectators! Some excellent penalties were on display, going down to the wire, but it was Delapre who came out on top, scoring all 5 of their spot kicks and booking themself a place in the regional finals.
Everyone at Northampton Town Football in the Community Programme would like to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved in this years npower Kids Cup tournament, from players competing to teachers organising teams/competitions and parents supporting.
We would also like to say a huge congratulations and good luck to Delapre Primary school for winning this competition. The League 2 North regional finals are scheduled to take place in the week commencing 12th March and will be held at a venue courtesy of Crewe Alexandra FC.
